- This is to replace current wood chip flooring filler with a more sustainable, turf-like product.
Currently it costs the district approximately $50,000 per year to replace/refill playground areas at elementary schools with new wood chips. - A more sustainable product for ground coverings at playgrounds will provide an ongoing maintenance cost savings and provide a smoother flooring to better accommodate ADA access (wood chips are ADA compliant but still hard for wheelchairs and those with mobility challenges.)
- Most campuses have already been upgraded with sidewalks on district property.
- This bond item would address any sidewalk maintenance needs on district property.
- High Schools – Boswell HS (primarily around wells) and Watson HS (perimeter)

Several safety and security projects included in the 2023 Bond are scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2024. The vestibule buzz-in systems will be installed on all EMS ISD middle and high school campuses. Once installed, visitors will enter the vestibule, and will then be buzzed in before gaining access to the front office. Other safety and security purchases include additional communications equipment for the EMS ISD Police Department and additional security cameras for campuses across the district.
Another safety feature at EMS ISD elementary schools will be the installation of a soft, smooth, ADA accessible turf-style ground covering at the elementary playgrounds, replacing the current wood chips. This multi-year project will take place over the course of the summer of 2024 and the summer of 2025. The district is still completing the work schedule and timelines for elementary campuses.
