In order to start the FAFSA application, the first step is creating your FSA ID.

The FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and allows you to electronically sign the federal student documents.

In order to create the FSA ID, you will need your Social Security number, full name, and date of birth.

The student and one parent or guardian will need to create their own, individual, FSA ID.
