Annual Health Care Reporting: Understanding Form 1095-C
Form 1095-C is an annual reporting form as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The ACA requires that employers with more than 50 employees offer health insurance to their full-time employees or pay a penalty. Form 1095-C documents that applicable large employers have complied with this regulation. Applicable large employers fill out the form, file it with the IRS, and distribute it to their employees. Employees may also need information from the form to include as part of their personal tax filing.
What employees need to know.
Employees should expect to receive a Form 1095-C from their employers, and may need information from the form in 2016 for their 2015 personal tax filing.
Your employer generally is required to distribute your Form 1095-C by March 31, 2016, covering information for the previous calendar year. Most full-time employees will receive a Form 1095-C in 2016 for the 2015 calendar year.
What is 1095-C?
You have probably heard of Health Care Reform and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and one change that may impact you directly is Form 1095-C. Organizations that employ more than 50 people are required to report to the IRS on the health insurance, if any, offered to their full-time employees. The Form 1095-C includes information about the health insurance coverage offered to you and, if applicable, your family. You may receive multiple Form 1095-Cs if you worked for multiple applicable large employers in the previous calendar year. You may need to submit information from the form(s) in 2016 as a part of your personal tax filing for 2015.
